1. Process efficiency for all kind of application

The application of highly viscous materials is mainly realised with automated concepts. Dürr offers complete solutions for such applications which include qualified specialists, process safe solutions, and our own high quality products. For every application, we deliver modular systems for body application in accordance with the customer’s specific requirements.

        Seam Sealing

Welds and glued seams are sealed prior to painting. In this process, overlapping panels or joints are sealed with special PVC materials. These measures will prevent water from penetrating into the vehicle interior later on.

        High quality. Low material consumption.

For this process fully automatic sealing with robots has finally established itself on the market in recent years. The ergonomically difficult working conditions of manual application will be eliminated, seam quality will improve and material consumption will decrease.

        Applying sealant to hem flanges

It is essential for door seams to have a perfect appearance. They need much finer and more clearly defined edges than wheel arches.

Hem flanges on add-on pieces for the car body are sealed with a highly precise Dürr application system in connection with specific nozzles

        Applying sealant with doors closed

Hem flanges on doors, hoods, and tailgates can be sealed with EcoRS16 robots and high-precision Dürr application systems. The special nozzle system enables the doors and closures to remain closed while the seams are being sealed. The high quality of the application process meets the requirements for visible seams.

        Underbody coating

The underbody area including the wheel housings is severely stressed due to stone chips and other influences. The under-body is sealed to prevent damage.

        Efficient application of viscous material

To make the application of viscous material more efficient, Dürr offers its electric EcoShot Meter piston dosing unit. Available in two sizes, this precise system is suitable for most viscous sealing and gluing materials and covers almost all applications as a standard model.

        Rocker panel coating

Rocker panels are severely stressed due to stone chips. These areas are coated to be protected from environmental impact.

        Coating with high edge definition

This process requires coatings with high edge definition. With the Dürr EcoGun2 MD special applicator, the sill no longer needs to be masked.

As an alternative, an overspray-free surface application system will produce high edge definition on sills. For this purpose, either the EcoGun1 or EcoGun2 3D can be used with special applicators (EcoJet SE). This process has the following advantages:

        • No supply air or booth required (a safety fence is sufficient)
        • Lower cleaning costs
        • The paint is not atomized
        • Thin coating layers (from 0.3 mm)

        Spraying insulating materials

The ideal ergonomic solution. Insulating mats are increasingly being applied by robots using a fully automated process, instead of being fitted manually.

The standardized EcoGun2 3D is suitable for all types of application from the injection of insulating materials to seam sealing.

Flexible application with the highest precision

The insulating material is applied with a specially developed nozzle system. The automated process brings greater flexibility and precision, produces higher quality results, and allows for complete reproducibility. The machine has a smaller footprint and results in lower logistics costs.

        Applying sealant to standing seams

In conventional processes the sealant is applied first to one side of the seam and then to the other. Dürr's system coats both sides with sealant in one single step.

A perfect seal in one step

In one step the edges of the standing seams are fully coated with PVC and sealed to prevent corrosion. A cross section of the seam shows that the edges of the welded sheet metal are completely surrounded with sealant in the shape of a fork wrench. This creates a reliable seal for the standing seam and reduces the cycle time of the process. No overspray is produced and no reworking is needed. The same nozzle can be used to apply sealant to lap joints. The system can be retrofitted to existing plants.

        Cavity conservation

Cars generally rust from the inside outward. Cavities in car bodies undergo a preservation process before painting to ensure that rust does not start to attack the new vehicle immediately.

With a wax film, the cavities of the car body are protected against corrosion.

        Fully automated rust protection

Body cavities are protected against corrosion with a wax film. Robots apply the wax to the areas of the body that are at risk of corrosion with lances and injection nozzles. This method keeps the amount of material used to a minimum and provides the best possible protection for the body.
